Although Bingbing Li’s ancestral home is not Sichuan (the site of the earthquake), she has felt compelled to do what she can to help the relief effort, donating 300,000 yuan to the cause. “Friends at pharmaceutical companies have donated 200,000 boxes of antibiotics, but we are worried that this is not enough and still need to raise 1.7 million more boxes for a total of 2 million boxes to be sent to Sichuan in three days.
Speaking about the disaster relief efforts, Bingbing Li recalled what a profound experience it was: “platoon leaders at the scene had teams with donation boxes, one night more than 100 million discs [yuan?] were donated; and I was touched by the female reporter, Lou Zuoyi Tuan, crying there.” She said she as been moved to tears whenever there has been an opportunity to watch the news, but last weekend she had to maintain a lighter composure while in Shanghai to address the Olympic torch.
